Poetry Thursday

Tied by endless need,
Tied by sore nipples,
Tied by sticky milk.

Tied by fascination.

Tied by cords wrapped around my heart
That pull and pull and pull.

Change is rapid now.
Wrinkled skin becomes smooth and full.
Signs of prematurity fade.
Downy hair on shoulder and nape of neck recedes.

But the eyes, the eyes remain the same.
The question in them,
Is it for me to answer?
Or are you trying to remember from where you came.
Firmly in this world now.
Do you think of it?

Thank you for coming,
Thank you for choosing,
Thank you for being,
My sons.

Your words made me smile, brought tears of memory of that feeling when you question what our newborn child is thinking and how to answer -- and -- reminded me of how much nursing can hurt at first. Ouch. Way to go! Glad you joined in.

beautiful pictures, beautiful words. Nursing does seem like a river sometimes, an amazing river that does tie you to your children. I'm impressed that you're able to nurse two! I'm glad you joined in.

This is very beautiful. The river for sustaining life. Very well told.

Beautiful pictures too.

Thank you for your sweet note on our blog (How's Robb?).

Funny how we overlap in blog-flickr-craft-therapy-life....

Thanks for the sweet bday wishes for my boys! AH - the pics of your boys just tug, tug, tug at my heart. They are SO sweet, and remind me SO much of my little ones once upon a time. It goes by so fast, and knowing that and saying that doesn't seem to change a thing. I can remember in the beginning trying to hang on mentally to each precious moment, as if I could somehow stop the flow of time by hanging on. And still, suddenly, they were a month old, then three months, then six months.... And now they are three years.

Your boys are simply beautiful. I'm glad you're enjoying them so much - they are lucky little guys!
